Three ways to install
Wall-mount units hang on the wall like a TV and plug in. Recessed units sit in a framed opening for a built-in look, with the depth and clearances set by the manual. Inserts slide into an existing fireplace opening and turn an old firebox into an electric one.

Power first
Most electric fireplaces draw enough current with the heater on to need a dedicated or lightly loaded circuit. We check the outlet and circuit before the install, and if a new circuit is needed, an electrician adds it.
Extension cords and power strips are not suitable for these units.
Retiring the old fireplace
When an insert goes into a masonry fireplace, the flue above stays open to the weather unless it is closed off. We seal the damper or top of the flue so the chimney stops letting in drafts, bugs and humid air.
