At a glance

Vented gas fireplaces, usually direct-vent, are what our Panama City crew installs in new or existing walls. Each unit is framed to the maker's clearances, vented to a correct outside termination and connected to a gas supply with a shutoff; startup includes a walkthrough of the controls.

Why Panama City Homeowners Call Us

Our family crew installs the unit and stays through the first startup.

  • Licensed and insured

Licensed and insured for gas fireplace installation work.

  • Upfront, honest pricing

Unit, vent, framing, gas and finish are priced in writing.

Direct-vent and B-vent

Most new installs are direct-vent. The unit is sealed behind glass, pulls combustion air from outside and sends exhaust out through a pipe within a pipe, so room air is not used. That lets it vent through an outside wall or the roof. B-vent units use room air and vent straight up by natural draft, and they are less common now.

Vent-free units are a separate category with their own rules; our ventless page covers them.

Planning the location

The best spot is where the vent can reach an outside wall or the roof by the route the manual allows. Terminations need set distances from windows, doors and other openings. We check the wall, the outside and the space above before you pick a model, so the location works on paper and on site.

We also look at the mantel and TV plans, because heat above a gas fireplace affects both.

Framing, gas and power

The unit sits in a framed box with the clearances listed in its manual. Most units need a gas supply line with a shutoff and many need a power outlet for the blower, lights or ignition. Gas piping work follows the Florida Fuel Gas code, based on NFPA 54.

Where a permit is required, we arrange it and schedule the install around the inspection.

Startup and handover

Once the unit is in, we light it, check the flame and the vent, and set the logs or media as the manual shows. Then we walk you through the remote, the controls and the yearly service the unit needs.

Questions Homeowners Ask Us

Who installs gas fireplaces?

Fireplace installers handle the framing, clearances, vent and unit. A gas line installer often runs the supply pipe to the shutoff. Our crew installs vented gas fireplaces in Panama City and coordinates the gas connection, permit and inspection, so you deal with one company.

Does a gas fireplace need a chimney?

A gas fireplace does not need a masonry chimney. Direct-vent units send exhaust through a sealed vent pipe out a wall or roof. B-vent units need a vertical vent pipe. Only vent-free units have no vent at all, and those come with room size limits set by their listing.

Does a gas fireplace need electricity?

Many do. An electronic igniter, blower, lights or remote receiver all need power, while some standing pilot models run with none at all. Units with battery backup ignition can still light during an outage, and the manufacturer's instructions list each model's needs.

How much does gas fireplace installation cost?

The unit and its vent route set most of the price. Framing and finish work, the gas line distance to the shutoff and any permit add to it; a direct-vent unit on an outside wall near the gas line is simpler than one venting up through the roof from the middle of the house.

Is a gas fireplace better than electric?

A gas fireplace gives real flame and more heat. It needs a vent, a gas supply and yearly service, while an electric unit needs only power and runs its flame effect without heat. The right choice depends on how much heat you want and what the wall and termination route allow.

Can a gas fireplace heat a whole house?

A gas fireplace warms a single room or open living area well. A larger direct-vent unit with a blower can take the chill off much of a small home, but even heat for a whole house belongs to the central system. Size the fireplace and its vent to the room first, then the termination.
